Give a child a prop and they can take you so much further than you had ever imagined.
The imagination of a child is a fantastic thing. They hold a remote control and suddenly they are talking to, lets say, Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse has had a good day at work, he works in a shop you know. He is, however, looking forward to a bounce on the trampoline and perhaps some pancakes for dinner.
The child, my child, has a lengthy half conversation with the fictional mouse. They discuss their meals, their emotions, their plans for the day, the places they might go together. Then they go to those places.
Mickey Mouse is apart of a lot of things in our house lately. He comes packaged in our little boys mind. He just loves imaginary play. So you might guess how thrilled he was when a box arrived from Pink Poppy containing one of these.
As soon as this tail was strapped around my little boys waist he WAS a puppy. Tongue hanging out of his mouth, panting as though he had just been merrily leaping after a ball in a field full of daisies.
He wore it nearly all day.
It seemed only appropriate that he visit the pet store wearing it. The little sound box that is tucked into the waist band barking along with us whenever pressed, so that means almost constantly.
We got sent this tail for review {no payment was offered or accepted}, and I love it. It has easily earned it’s place in our illustrious and growing dress-up box.
Dress-ups are one of my favourite pieces of the imaginary play puzzle. Give a child a prop and you open a door to a whole new world.
{We also received some teeny tiny hair clips for Veronica, although I have to take them out at sleep time because she’s a baby: read choking hazard, they just look so darned cute in her hair.}
If you want to check out Pink Poppy’s large range of dress-up and accessory related products you can find them on Twitter and Facebook, as well as their blog and website – the little handbags they have, eek, so very sweet.

Oh we love dress ups in this house! When Miss8 was 3-5 she rarely wore ‘normal’ clothes! She was ALWAYS a princess, fairy, dinosaur or cat! We’d go to the library, supermarket shopping and to the park in fancy dress and it has fostered her love of reading and diving head first into books. Encourage it <3

Yes, that’s what I love about it!
This is a dress-up house too – although ours is purely of the fairy/princess variety!
